selamat hari raya..

well here we are. already raya ke 7. still not too late to do a raya entry right?

this year we celebrated the first day of raya at my parents. we came over the night before and wouldn't you believe it little jj got her walking legs there and then. i guess she just felt the time was right for her to do the whole 'look ma no hands' trick. chalk that off the baby milestone book eh.

so it was off to the mosque in the morning. then we came to the food. oooh. masak lodeh. ayam masak merah. lemang. staple raya food and my mom made it just the way i like it. this year raya was a tad quieter. my sister and her family is in india. so nabil, aidil and farzana is rayaing bollywood style. so there was no extra drama during our traditional drama session. i think u guys are familiar with the raffali clan family drama by now. we have our traditional 'anugerah burung' award for the most melodramatic apology by a family member. i think this year it fell to khalil.

we ziarah arwah kak ima's kubur a bit later in the afternoon. has it been 6 years already? ...

then we were visited by my brother in law, faizal's family. now this was a contender for another anugerah burung. we skyped the indians. they were still fasting over there. so we had another tear-jerking moment with faizal and his family. the kids were all cool enjoying themselves la. i don't think they even register the fact that we're thousands of miles away.

so it was food food and more food.

the second day, we were on our way to ipoh. the drive over wasn't all that bad. stopped over a couple of times. there were two cars in our mini convoy. my fil and mil were in the other car. we listened to michael jackson tunes all the way to ipoh.

we were visiting my fil's relatives in ipoh. stayed for two nights at the impiana casuarina. a quaint little hotel which was fully booked this raya season. did my booking over a month ago via the internet. the food was good, the staff was okay. overall we thought that the service was good. will probably go there again if we visit ipoh the next time.

we made our way home on the fourth day of raya. visited some more relatives on the fifth day. and chilled the whole sixth day. and back to some more rayaing today.

and that was pretty much my first week of raya.

the highlight is definitely lil jj walking. penat gak melayan lil jj. she can walk on her own but she just wants me to hold her hand sometimes. this one time i was holding her hand, then i switched with my brother in law, she kept on walking and walking until she saw me sitting, kept walking for a bit, looked up and say my brother in law. looked at me and then cried. hehe. drama sungguh.

look ma, no hands..

Brand new year, same old shit?

2017 is here. After that very eventful 2016 one can't help but hope that the new year brings about more positive things. It doesn't look all that good though.
Will we get an election this year? I'd seriously consider it if I was the pm. I mean yes he has go a lot going for him but what he doesn't have at the moment is a credible United opposition to give him a run for his money. So yeah. Calling for an early election may be something that can be to his favour.
Will stupid acts by stupid people stop making then famous? Nope. Early on we saw a bunch of kids scaling the IPOH sign for shits and giggles. Posted everything on social media. Last I heard they've already come in to give statements to the fuzz. So the moral of the story is if you wanna do stupid things don't blab on social media with your smiling mug there for everyone to see.
Pump prices are up. No point complaining anymore since the price mechanism is partially public so we can pretty much guess th…

What's in it for me.

Looking at how the campaign for the Sarawak state election is going you would think that is a matter of who can promise the most who would probably win it. Difference being one party boasts a track record and the other one, well depends on which other one that is doesn't.
I especially love it how these promises are all presented as conditional upon winning the election. Doesn't reek of bribery at all eh? Not buying votes. Yeah right.
You would think that given how Selangor and Penang are run, they would want to see it emulated in Sarawak? I guess loyalty goes a long way over there.
As it is there are a couple of outstanding issues that Sarawak can use as a bargaining chip in trying to force the federal government to start giving them more.
Oil royalties, more federal projects etc. and what better way to do it than to vote for the opposition?
If the opposition wins, then Sarawakians can send a message to the federal gov't that hey if you don't give us what we want than t…
